Snow-calipse weekend
This was quite a weekend. DC got slammed with almost 2 feet of snow overnight. As can be expected the city ground to a sudden halt. Roads were a mess, public transportation was non-existent, and everyone was urged to stay home. Being good citizens the Mex and I followed Fenty's orders to stay off the streets and couped up at home for the day.
There's not much to do when you have an ADD'ed Mexican bouncing off the walls in your tiny apartment, so I baked a coffee cake, helped him pack for his trip back to chacha land, watched a trashy gay movie with him, and just enjoyed the day off from working out, driving around, and the general chaos that is DC.
Our plans to hang out with Molly on Saturday evaporated due to the snow, so we decided to reschedule for Sunday. Sunday was a much nicer day as the sun came out, the snow stopped falling, and signs of life could be seen on the street. We drove around town enjoying that most major thoroughfares had been cleared of the snow and got in a bit of shopping at Crate and Barrell, Bloomingdale's, and J. Crew. All family gifts, I swear!
Sunday afternoon was a whirlwind of activity. I helped Knick and Knack set up their new blog: http://the-crafty-ones.blogspot.com/, went to a yoga class, then met them for dinner at Lauriol Plaza.
The craziest part of this snow storm is that cabs are nowhere to be found. RedTop Cab had the Mex on hold indefinitely until he got tired and hung up while Diamond Cab only made him wait 20 or so minutes to say he should call again at 3AM Monday to see if they had any cabs available. Our plans to get him a cab to the airport evaporated, I resigned to waking up early with him and driving him to DCA. The roads in DC were empty at 4AM making the drive a breeze once I had the lights timed correctly.
With the Mexican dispatched to Cha-cha land I'm left to my own devices to prepare for Family-rama 2009. My brother is supposed to land at Dulles tomorrow afternoon. I've yet to hear from him where he's staying exactly. Mother arrives Thursday morning. Christmas will be here before I know it!
